Suddenly Everything Changed:

A Refugee's Journey from Afghanistan to Germany


Atef Mohammed Ghulami, a former refugee, will be telling the story about fleeing from Afghanistan with his mother and younger brother at age 12. Learn more about his life before they were threatened by the Taliban, how they were able to escape. and the many complications they had to overcome during and after their journey. He will also talk about his struggles of dealing with his mother’s health issues, learning multiple languages, and settling in a foreign country as a refugee.  Atef is now working full time as a nurse at the University in Lübeck after graduating from the four year apprenticeship. 

He has recently received his German citizenship and is now on his first trip in the United States as a tourist.
